Socialist Modernism in Romania:
An Architectural & Monumental Art
Research Tour
BACU Association and U Tours are jointly coordinating a six-day research study tour through Romania, tracing the socialist modernist built heritage from the capital to the Black Sea coast. The programme takes in Bucharest, the historic industrial cities of Ploiești, Buzău, Botoșani, and Iași, the Danube port cities of Galați, Brăila, and Tulcea, and the celebrated Black Sea resorts of Mamaia, Constanța, Eforie, Costinști, Mangalia, and the Olimp–Saturn resort strip.
Notable sites include the mosaic-decorated mass housing of Brăila, the Summer Theater at Mamaia, the brutalist towers of Constanța Central Railway Station, the Eforie leisure centres, and the monumental art of the Black Sea resort strip. BACU's heritage listing specialists provide architectural interpretation, on-site documentation, and heritage assessment guidance throughout, while U Tours ensures comprehensive logistical support.
